Ways To Sketch Better

Over they years, I’ve notice a number mistakes that people people tend to make when they sketch. In an effort to save you time and frustration, I’ve created this list of quick sketching tips that will help you to avoid these mistakes. Let’s go through them.

Tip 1: Don’t obsess about being perfect. Sketching is not about being perfect. It’s about letting your creativity flow and going with the rhythm.

The way to get better to to sketch a lot and you can’t do that if you are worry about making every sketch perfect.

Tips 2: Train yourself to see lines in everything that you look at. Look for the horizontal and vertical lines. Follow the curves and focus on them.

Sketching is about see lines in objects and putting them onto paper, so this is a critical skill to have.

Tip 3: Be careful about how you turn your head. The angle of your head will change the view you have on an object.

I’m not saying there is a right and wrong perspective, but if you start out a sketch with one perspective, you need to make sure that it stays consistence.

Tip 4: If you want to make an object look lighter, there is a way to do it without using an eraser. Simply put something darker next to it. This is the contrast principle at work and the brain can not tell the difference. Play around with this sketching tip and you’ll find that you can do a lot of cool things.

Tip 5: Make sure that everything you want to draw will fit onto your drawing paper. The lasting you want is to run out of room just when you are about to create your next masterpiece.

Tip 6: Sketch faster. Practice sketching faster and you’ll improve how you see and also your understanding of lines and form. Plus your strokes will look more fluid and smooth.

Tip 7: Don’t be intimidated by objects that look complicated. Just break it up in to simple shapes and use those shapes to map out the object on your paper. That will give you a rough outline and a great place to start.

Tip 8: Pay attention to the light source when you sketch. Shading is crucial to making a drawing look realistic so make sure you get it right. If the light source is on the right of your subject, then the shadows should be consistently on the left.

You might think that these sketching tips are pretty simple, but put them into practice and you’ll be amaze at the result.
